By now, you’ve seen the many headlines about the By now, you’ve seen the many headlines about the disturbing rise in anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment in America. Over 400 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced throughout the United States—and disturbingly, many of them are passing. We are once again reaching a crucial inflection point of the LGBTQ+ movement. But, if the vast history of our community has taught us anything, it’s that we will rise to this occasion, too.

For Trans Week of Action, we will break down what’s happening with this wave of anti-trans and drag ban bills, and what we can all do to help stop it. Then on Transgender Day of Visibility (03/31), stay tuned for a spotlight of our @TransWellnessCenter— underscoring our commitment to defending, advocating for, and caring for the trans community.

This coming week, #Angelenos and global citizens a This coming week, #Angelenos and global citizens alike will be celebrating #CesarChavezDay, an observance that honors the labor activist’s historical accomplishments, including: establishing minimum wage standards, wage contracts, safer working conditions, child labor reform, and advancement in civil rights for Chicanos and other farm workers. But did you know #CesarChavez was an early #LGBTQ ally?

Chávez is known as the first major civil rights leader to publicly support Gay and Lesbian issues. He wanted United Farm Workers to be a universal movement for equity, so he had been supportive of the queer community since the 1970s, when he attended gay rights events with #HarveyMilk. He also marched in the Gay Community Parade in the Castro District of San Francisco, joined by farmworkers who carried their UFW flags. His commitment to the LGBTQ+ movement earned him a spot at the front of the Second National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights in 1987, where he addressed a crowd of 200,000 people. “How could you demand equality for your own people while tolerating discrimination against anyone else because of who they are?” he said.

Join us in community to celebrate #CesarChavezDay with a special screening of the LGBTQ+ and Latinx documentary “Unidad: Gay & Lesbian Latinos Unidos' as a part of the One Archives Foundation ‘Together on the Air’ exhibition. Learn more at onearchives.org
